Old NewsSeptember 3, 2006 I hope everyone is having a great holiday weekend! I have a CD from Straight Edge that I will be adding to the list very soon. These guys were at the Hogs for Dogs rally and did a great job on their own music and several covers. Also wanted to let you know on September 9th, SK Krow will be playing a show at Nathan P Murphy's. This is a must see show. These guys are unique in Springfield, and well established outside of SW Missouri. I saw there show in August and really enjoyed it. They played with two other bands, including Poetica. I have some pics I will post as soon as I get time for a real serious update to the site. I also ran into Cory from Whisper 2 Scream, that have had a small lineup change, but will be playing a lot this and next month. Expect to see new awesome music from them in the coming weeks. On that note, I have been in the middle of a serious career change, and soon will have the time I need to start promoting the site and more bands. So if your in a band and your not listed here yet, please send me those demo or sale cd's so I can help the world see a little more of you! I also have a burning promise CD, but I need contact info for the guys, so if you have that, please send me an email at james@gufbal.com August 6, 2006 Here are some things you may be intersted in supporting local music and some great events happeneing soon! Also coming soon, a music festival for The Center for Women in Transition & Restorative Justice. For details go to www.tocofestival.com July 21, 2006 Two weeks ago many of you missed out on a great show! The Hogs for Dogs rally turned out great! Four bands played, all took home a little something, the winner ending up with several hours of free recoding time at Studio 2100! The bands included MK Ultra, Hurry Sundown, Spiral and Straight Edge. The bands all played well and the crowd loved the music. Considering this was a 5 dollar event, included a meal and a chance to help a great cause, I hope some of you were able to make it.
July 7, 2006 Sunday is the Battle of the Bands at Denney's Harley Davidsons. It is a greta way to help local charity, listen to greta music from local artists, and see the great new bikes on display. Lots of things going on, and even I will be there helping out. Come out Sunday and have a great time! June 18, 2006 Thanks to all those on Myspace and otherwise who sent me a Happy Birthday this weekend. I was stuck in Texas and just got home. Its great to be loved! So, here is a band I am pretty happy to bring to you. Mi Dixie Wrecked is a great local band from Springfield and KC, many of you probably already know them. They have two albums out in the 90's, and a new one on the way. Check out some of the songs I really liked, and if you interested, they have full length albums available at their shows.
June 5, 2006 I'm sitting in a truck stop in Oklahoma City, listening to a new CD from a great local band you all should already know, Starrfadu. If you are familiar with them through their many great reviews or because you have seen them play locally, then you realize what a treat it is to get them on this site. If you don't have a clue who they are, then stop reading and click on the Starrfadu link below! I also ran across a fella by the name Lil'D The Midwesterner, with Inner Space Productions. I do't have any pics, but I do have two tracks of of his demo album. It is a full length album, so check out his work in local hip hop, and watch for him coming to the downtown area soon. May 29, 2006 Yes, I haven't been keeping up here lately. Hope these next few bands make up some of the slack! I have added Zenith Farm for a bit of humor, because these guys are just sick, and funny too. I also added Opie Hicks and the Elements today. They are the first of several rap/hip hop bands from the area I plan on adding. Since these guys are locally famous, and nationally established, they are a great choice for first hip hop band onsite!
May 6, 2006 I finally updated the shows the local places sent me, but be sure to check out the forums for more shows from local greats like Cinemascope and Apnea! Also coming, maybe even today, songs from Zenith Farm and Opie Hicks! Still looking for more great local bands and new cd's from the bands already here. Let me know what you think of the latest bands like Chance and the Chasers. Also look forward to seeing some of the local hip hop and R&B players to start making some appearances on the site! More to come... April 14, 2006 made a change you definitely ave to know about! I removed the dead list, and will make space for a new brand of music at Springfield Music Scene. Jazz has landed folks. Check out Chance Havens work both solo and with his band Chance and The Chasers. I have his double disc release titled Contemplate that has both his solo work on one disc and the whole group on the second. Its simply awesome. While he is extremely well established here and elsewhere, he is new on the site, so stop by and check out his latest work. April 4, 2006 OK, I actually got all of the new MK Ultra songs and lyrics uploaded! I also will be getting to the shows listings very soon. I have been a little remote lately, but the good news is you can still get all your downtown show information from Downtown NOW magazine! Check out the mag, and keep an eye on this site for several more new and used bands being added to the site. April 3, 2006 Alright, MK Ultra has three new songs with lyrics, stop by and check out the new songs. These guys are great, you really need to see them live to appreciate them. March 21, 2006 Hey guys! Making some changes, updates, and notes for all you all. First thing, I still have three bands I need to add info on including new songs from MK Ultra and Apnea and a new addition to the site, Zenith Farm! but as you noticed, the site hasn't been updated in a couple weeks. Long story short, I have been in school for a new career, and last weekend I got married. SO forgive me but my hands have been tied... Firmly tied, I will say no more! I have more info on the Battle of Bands I had mentioned, and will be updating and finally adding some more general info to the site. Stay tuned! PS!!! Backyard Tire Fire will be playing at The Bar Next Door on the 25th! Read the article and check out their site. The album kicks ass, so stop by and tell the guys I sent ya! December 27, 2005: Today I have added The Fall of Everett McGill, Macon and Unorthodox to the Scene, enjoy the new bands and as always support your local music scene! More to come... December 21, 2005: Let the recovery begin... I might be a little too old for Static X shows, but none the less, I went anyway! I have a link for the pics below, they were taken with a toss away camera, so they are mediocre but available to view. The concert was awesome! I would like to thank Q102 for helping bring the show to town and by making tickets available as they always do for the best shows coming through town. Opening the night was Frail, a band I hope to have on this site very soon. They are from Joplin and put on a great show of their own. Following them was Opiate For The Masses, very cool band out of Phoenix, Arizona. The third band, Ill Nino really woke the crowd up with awesome an awesome light show and some extreme vocals. Finally Static X made it onstage. The best part of all this was I met the band prior to the show and got a couple pictures with them. They even signed my new SMS.com shirt made for me by my good friend Muki. The shirts were excellent, the band loved them, and now I dont know if I should even wear them, since they have the signitures of the whole band! Q102 took pics of everyone who met the band, and hopefully there will be some pics there you should be able to enjoy too! The pic are in a file, its easier for me to give them out that way. Click here to open the file to view the pics one at a time. WIll try to improve on this later on! December 17, 2005: Uhm, going to the Unorthodox show tonite... AND STATIC-X MONDAY NIGHT! for free! I hope to see some familiar faces, and a lot of hot chics. Anyone have a great camera? Let work something out! December 15, 2005: Just added another great new band, Runaway Planet out of Little Rock! A great bluegrass band who will be doing more shows here in the future. Check them out and compare them to your own favorite homegrown bands! Also check out Doc Browns Odyssey, a local folk band with some awesome accoustics. These guys are new, but sound great and will be playing with several other local bluegrass bands in the near future! If you weren't aware already, I have been working with Michael Crowder on getting all the downtown shows listed in the new Downtown NOW magazine. If your favorite club isn't listed, then bug the crap out of them until they get a hold of me. I can only call, stop and harass the managers so many times, its your turn! If you haven't been able to read the Downtown NOW mag, then pick one up at the Electric Newsstand, they have lots. Starting in January you will be able to get it delivered to your mail box, as a subscription service will be started since circulation has grown so fast. Its a great zine, and I am truly happy to contribute what I can! December 4, 2005: Hey all, I had a great weekend! Went down to a private party for a great guy at the Riad, and afterwards I went down to the Bar Next Door to see what was up. Just happen to run into a great bluegrass band from Little Rock called Runaway Planet. These guys were great! Since they plan on coming back as often as possible, I will be hosting a couple songs from this later this week. While talking to them I also ran into Jake from Doc Brown's Odyssey. I am really looking forward to hearing these guys live! Expect to see a couple tracks from them later this week, too! Last Wednesday night I headed down to Patton Alley Pub, one of my new favorite spots, to listen to Eddie Gumucio play. He has just released his latest CD titled "When There You Were...". If you haven't heard Eddie play, pack your bags and get out of town... or just go check him out every Wednesday at Patton Alley! That's three new bands for you guys, check back often to check out their new songs, and what else I can come up with! Oh yeah, I have the new venue finder almost done, and also some information for local rockers to get played on the radio. Check out the contact page for more details on that. November 30, 2005: Been a slow month for me, as I haven't had time to get out and check out the local scene, but I have been working very hard on several other items. I have a map coming soon. If you want your favorite hotspot listed, send me the name and address of the place. I am looking for local supporters and venues for the live local guys! I have a contact page up, including some info for getting your music played on the air waves. I expect to find some new music this weekend, so if your a band looking to get listed, send me a note so I can come check you out!
November 5, 2005: Ok, time for me to run my mouth. What is going on downtown these days? Springfield city council is once again looking for any method of screwing up the downtown areas for those who enjoy good music and good times. Let me list the ways;
November 2, 2005: I have just finished listing a ton of shows for the local area, mostly downtown gigs. I will be adding more shows this weekend from all the bands on the site, plus adding a new and greatly improved Venue locator!!! for all the local bars and clubs that host local live music! The links page will probably get changed too, not sure to what, but I will be adding a contact page for all the band who are wanting to get listed. I will be working on the MySpace site somewhat, to try to put together a group thing maybe, have to see about that. As always, post your thoughts and comments on the message board!!! That is all for now, go back to jamming on your MP3 Player! October 27, 2005: Its been a while, but things are starting tog et real busy! MK Ultra is online here and now, with their song Goin Down. The live version of this band is something to be reckoned with! Check them out here, and at their MySpace site. This weekend is the pub crawl here in Springfield. Tickets are 12 bucks, pretty much wherever you go. Be sure to check out the Drink on the 29th, for their Tim Burton Halloween Party!.Springfield Music Scene is also on MySpace so be sure to check out that link on the left, and join the group! October 1, 2005: What a busy night! Lots of new bands to add to Springfield Music Scene this week! First off, Omichron is finally up, check out their mind shattering ballads. Also the new songs for Hurry Sundown are up as well off of their latest CD released in April titled "Can You Feel It". This weekend I saw Violence for Profit, Steve Ewing, Saraphims Curfew and Logic at the Rockwell, The Beautiful Losers and Juniper were at The Burgundy Room, and Brand of Freak with MK Ultra were at The Blue Room. Both Violence for Profit and Brand of Freak were doing CD releases, and both groups drew quite a crowd. It was a great night for the local music scene, hope none of you missed out! September 25, 2005: Coming Soon! Check them out! ![]() September 19, 2005: I'm back! So I have been working a little on the site, I think its a better look.. Much more to come, by the way does anyone know of a good FREE flash player I can use? I have 4 bands coming hopefully onsite this weekend. Omicron, Seraphim's Curfew, Saint Priscilla and new music from Hurry Sundown! I am looking forward to new music from Jah Roots, Beautiful Losers, Hogmolly, and several others. Just thought you might like something new this week! September 8, 2005: I should have the Broken Hearts Academy onsite as soon as I find time to burn off a couple tracks! This is a really great band from out of town, but they are playing several shows coming up. Also have several new tracks from a local artist who wishes to remain nameless. I will post the tracks, and I would love to get some feedback on what you think of the music. Springfield Music Scene will be hosting a couple shows very soon, one this month and one next. I don't have solid dates yet, but I do have some ideas. This month I will be putting together some Emo and Indi bands for a night at the Drink. In October I am going to try to bring in some local and out of town bands for a hard rock or metal show. Yes, I am draggin ass on changing the site around... I figure as long as you can find the bands, hear the music, and see where they are playing, I have time! As always I am always looking to add new local bands or bands that play in the area. August 20, 2005: If you weren't at the Drink on the 18th, you missed a ton of great music! Cinemascope, (not formally known as cinnamon stick)played first and really played some great original and cover tunes. Anyone who does a Devo cover is freakin awesome, in my opinion. Quietdrive followed up blasting several of their songs, followed by their Partner from Minnesota, Faully. Faully also played some great songs, and I was glad to finally meet both bands after hearing so much about them on and off line. Last but not least was Phases. I got to tell you these guys are also an awesome band. Their music was totally different then anyone else's that night and it really made an impression on everyone who was there. If you missed this show, you really, really missed out. Here are some other updates; New Pics for Cinemascope and Phases August 7, 2005 August 18 @ The DrinkIts where you need to be. Click the links to learn more about the bands, as I list them off. The show starts around 9pm, it will cost you between $3-5 to get in the door. A new band in Springfield called Phases and another local band called Cinemascope will be on hand to open the show to warm things up. Faully's Band and Quietdrive will be in town from the Far North, Minneapolis, Minnesota to be exact. Quietdrive is the Band of the Week at Myspace if you want to check them out there. It should be a great night, and Springfield Music Scene is glad to be part of it! On the local front, I have added Phases and The Results to the site, and glad to have them! I will be adding more local venue information. I haven't had the chance to pick up a copy of the new Downtown NOW magazine, but if all went as hoped we have an advertisement there, and a list of the local venues and all of their shows. I would love to know if anyone else has seen this mag out yet. July 10, 2005 Here is a link to a band coming to the Rockwell on July 18. Lost City Angels is on the Hopeline Tour, with AKA's and A Wilheim Scream benefiting the Hopeline Network/1-800 Suicide, the same non-profit suicide prevention organization that benefits from the annual Take Action! Tour. All songs are © the artist or group. Cover songs are © material, and used only as examples of the current artists or groups skills. Check out the sites of all these bands, and feel free to contact them to play for you at a club, or to get a full blown cd from them or their respective distributors! Thanks from Springfield Music Scene.com July 2, 2005 Been out again, and look what I found! Playing with Matches, Cinemascope, and Tinnitus all had new music for me to put on the site. The first two bands are new to the site, and well worth listening to. Of course Tinnitus has been a long timer on the site, but they have a new CD you really should check out! Their sound just keep getting better and better! Also, if your looking to do more shows, let me know. I can line you up Thursday nights at two different clubs! Also possibly several other shows looking to add bands, or other nights of the week on occasion. On other news, I still have several more updates for the site. I am going to overhaul the site at some point soon. Just a new look, haven't settled on what yet. Going to add a list of radio stations that play the local bands and change the way I show you venues. Lots of great ideas, just got to find the time! June 30, 2005 The website may go down for a day or two in the near future as I am changing servers with Ipowerweb. The current server is a piece of crap, and has screwed up my mail, had too much downtime, and been a general pain in the ass! Hope some of you make it to the Procycle Grand Opening this weekend, if anyone out there wants a new best friend, buy me a nice motorcycle. I'm not picky, as long as its fast, laid back, and shiny... and full size, nothing smaller then a 750. Thanks! June 10, 2005 Since the message board is down at the moment, here is an important message from Reid Lyle at Procycle:
June 1, 2005 Here is another great local show, be sure to check it out! Coming to the Rockwell June 14th! ![]() May 9, 2005 Huge changes still taking place! Added two new bands and some new songs from DOC. I finally got 3 Headed Moses on the site, and added You Fail Me from Saturday nights show at the Rockwell. As always post your thoughts at the message board, or anywhere you feel like posting!
May 3, 2005 Gufbal.com has now been renamed! The old links work, but please change all your links to this site to www.springfieldmusicscene.com! More new bands to come, plus advertising for local businesses and local bands! Great low rates and a rare opportunity for your local business to contribute to the music scene, and to gain a lot of young new customers! If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me. April 13, 2005 I have uploaded all of the concert dates for all of the bands I could find dates for! I will have Voices of Treason uploaded shortly, several more bands very soon. I also am adding a couple clubs to the venues list, so keep your eyes open this week, it should be a good one. March 31th, 2005 New music includes Black Buffalo, and Drive Theory, and there are two new songs by Apnea! Check them out, pass the word, and share the wealth. This has been the biggest month for Springfield Music Scene.com, so keep coming back, post a thought on the forums about what you like, and in general support local live music! March 8th, 2005 I have made a few changes to the site, many more to come including listing all of the bands who have split up or stopped playing together for whatever reason. Thinking about a new layout, and all recent news will come back to the main page. I saw the Adrenals and The Ladykillers this weekend at Culley's. I have the latest album by The Ladykillers and they will be recording more songs soon. The Adrenals also have a new CD out and they sound great! Saturday night was their last local show. They are touring the midwest for at least the next month. We hope to see them play again in Springfield very soon! July 23, 2004: Well we have a new link, Dan's Games. So far he has his 3D breakout game up. It is also in Beta test, so if you have trouble let him know! Or mail me, or post in the forums. Gufbal.com has finally been laid out the way it should be, I think, for quite some time. Since music is the main stay of entertainment it should be the main course here too. Lots of new music just piling up to be posted! I will be getting that done very soon. Several new groups to talk to, and made some great contacts over the weekend. Dirty Inc played at the Blue Room Saturday and the place was pretty packed! The Reeming, aka Pillow Talk, aka unknown also played some heavy hitting thrash metal. Think Slayer, and you got it right! Old friend Danny Bird played some of his original music, and even a couple covers. SOrry ladies, no Smelly Cat rendition. Post in the forums if you really want this, I'm sure we can talk him into it. Ozark Underground is a site for those people looking for a little excitement in the Ozarks, including a little suburban and urban adventuring, exploring, etc. Check out the new forum, and post any cool places that you like to explore. Update June 24, 2004:The Band Dirty Inc. will be playing at the Blue Room, inside Springfield Billiards, July 10th. Check out their first demo song "Taken" on the music page, and then stop by the Blue Room to hear the rest of the bands soon to be hits. See ya there! Update June 17, 2004: Its my birthday! Well yesterday was. Please send gifts, music and money are always nice! Update: Back to business. Dirty Inc. has sent me their first original demo with the track named Taken. Its a great song, takes me back a little bit, but my memory won't let up to where I went back to. Anwyay, check out the song, post what you think of it in the forum, and let me know what else you might like to see. Also coming soon Lost Highway, a local band with some great covers. DOC is sending their CD to me, they just got back from a trip to California. These guys might just be going big time, so keep an eye on them! Coming Soon!Update: I will be creating a new page as soon as I get the information. This page will contain club information for those going out to the clubs or those wanting to play at the clubs. If they hire bands, allow bands to play or are otherwise condusive to loud music and fun, then they will be listed. If you know of some great Springfield Missouri Clubs that should be listed please send me an email with the Business name, contact person, phone number, and any relavent info about the place. Thanks, have a nice day! June 1, 2004: I made it to the Blue Room Saturday night, and was glad to make it. Now I saw some old friends and had a good time with some new friends. Oh yeah, and listened to some heavy hitting bands! I have to say, these guys need a bigger place to play! (This is a blatant hint to the club owners who have some space they need to fill with a rock band!!!) I forgot about how hot Goth chics were, but anyways... DOC sounded great, looking forward to their CD in the mail. Dawn, the manager of the band, was very cool and a lot of fun. Mike from Rings of Rust was good to go with two songs from their "rough" demo. Both songs are on the music page. They are not so rough if you ask me. Great tunes! I am looking forward to a full length CD at some point soon from these guys. Rumor had it maybe next month or two. Josh was not all blue in the blue room.
May 21, 2004: Alright! I have learned Tinnitus is going to be back in town at the Blue Room inside Springfield Billiards. Cover will be Four Dollars, but for that you get to also see DOC, and Rings of Rust. I'm not sure of the time, but as I learn more I will post it here. I am also looking to get some DOC music, and will try to meet the group Rings of Rust and see what I can work out with them. In other news, the Rain River page has had some additions, and its still about 10% uploaded from my main stash of info. I had noticed a post on some MSN group about how someone was leery about submitting ideas out of fear of being SUED by WOTC. Well I think I covered that in the legal page, but I should also tell you all I have mailed Wizards, and asked them to view my site and give me something I can post to prove there are no rules being broken here. I hope that clarifies things. The biggest thing going on right now is the Rain River Project. I am building a new world for Dungeon and Dragons gamer's to be used as a tool, as a base of operations, and as adventure fodder and a place for others to see their worlds, cities, or characters to come alive. All submissions are welcome, but will be scrutinized before being added to the realm. Feel free to join us at our forums, and post your ideas. All credit will be given to the individual for their contributions. For the rules or requirements to submit your work please fill out the format here. One of the first groups to submit is Lost Horizon Games. They pages are still in the works, so there isn't much to see, but check back and watch his space based RPG come to life! There is an opportunity to play on a test forum, if your interested. Please go to the forum for more information. But don't let that stop you from looking at the rest of the site! If your a Springfield local, then join up with the forums an post a hello. Its new, so you are going to get a lot of seniority real fast. If you see something you like, or don't see something that would only make sense to have on this site then let me know what I can do for you. Of course I moderate everything, and will eliminate any spammers, bots, flakes and flamers. May 14, 2004: Another month has passed and a few new sites have come to mind. School is out, summer is coming and I still need a girlfriend... Anyway, if your bored, got too much time, and want to see a few of the oddities out there in the world click the following links. If you have a similar site and want a link placed here just send me an email. I saved a couple sites that are fav's of mine. Hope you get a kick out of them! March 6, 2004: Wow! Tinnitus did a gig here in Springfield, and they really know their rock! Check out the music link, listen to a couple of their tunes, and check out the photo album for a few shots I took of them at Culley's Pub. Tray(?) the bartender and band bookie gave me the run of the place for pics, and I got to say, for such a small place it knows how to pack the people in. I would certainly suggest this place for anyone looking for a good time. A big plus is its right on the Square, (311 West Park Central, or something like that). If you get a wild hair, there are only about a dozen other places within walking distance from the parking area across the street. Most to come on those places as I get time to go, and pics to post.
